The Loddon & District Business Association is spearheading a campaign for the urgent dredging of the River Chet from Hardley Flood to Loddon Staithe by the Broads Authority.

The Broads Authority have recently undertaken work on the northern end of the River Chet, improving banks, dredging the river of silt and re-installing sluice gates at Hardley Flood.

The southern end of the river in Loddon & Chedgrave is now badly silted, which is causing a serious problem for river traffic and tourists. If this work is not undertaken immediately, it will damage the tourist industry in this area and local [...]

Saxon House takes the Scarecrow first prize

Saxon House sheltered housing in Loddon was the winner of the LDBA’s annual Scarecrow Festival with their splendid Mexican Bandits. The theme for the 2013 Scarecrow Festival was Pirates and Bandits.

The two members of staff who had created the scarecrows were presented with their prize, a bottle of rum and boxes of chocolates, by the chairman of the LDBA, Cherry Trigwell.

May 2013 networking

LDBA held its May meeting on Wednesday 15 May 2013 at 1830 at the Loddon Swan. Networking events are held on the third Wednesday of every other month, so the next one will be on Wednesday 17th July and will be held at the Jubilee Hall Social Club.

Eleven people attended, nine were WiRE members and two were visitors.

Loddon – one of the best places in the UK for a second home

Well according to the Times today, Loddon is the 13th best place to buy a second home in the UK. Not that we have (or would want) that many second homes here, and I’m not sure about the dinky. But it’s quite nice to know that other people agree with us in that Loddon is a lovely place to live.

Spring must be in the air because plans by the LDBA are underway to hold a second Scarecrow Festival during the weekend of 24 – 27 May 2013.

Following the success of last year’s Royal Jubilee event the swashbuckling theme for this year’s display is Pirates & Bandits.

To help those lost for inspiration, two free scarecrow workshops will be held over the previous weekends:

Wednesday 8th May Lecture Hall/St. Johns, Loddon 6-8 p.m.

Sunday 19th May Brian Clarke Rooms, Chedgrave 2-5 p.m.

Successful Victorian Evening

Despite the cold and the rain, lots of people came out to enjoy late night shopping and festive cheer in Loddon and Chedgrave on December 7th. The church was full to bursting and many shops along the High Street and Bridge Street were packed with people all night, particularly Loddon Mill Arts, Envy hairdressers, Loddon Nearly New, Loddon Garden & Seed Centre, Youngs Funeral Directors, Lawnes Beauty Clinic and Musker McIntyre.

We’ve had lots of messages of thanks and this one from Patrick Wright of Langley summed up their views.

The latest LDBA networking evening was held at the Swan in Loddon on Wednesday 21st November 2012 and twenty nine people attended, a mixture of LDBA members and guests. Four new members joined the LDBA on the night.

Everyone was impressed by the new upstairs function room at the Swan and the conversation flowed all night. It was good to see Loddon Parish Councillors, Rod Williams and June Strickland there too.
