Diamond Jubilee – 2-5 June 2012

We are holding two events in Loddon and Chedgrave over the weekend of the Diamond Jubilee, 2-5 June 2012 as part of a programme of events in the area:

  • Scarecrow festival
  • Swap Shop treasure hunt

To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee we will be holding a Royal Scarecrow Festival between 2 – 5 June 2012 along the length of Loddon High Street and extending to The Pits, Chedgrave.

Loddon and Chedgrave are traditional Norfolk villages with plenty to see and the Scarecrow Festival gives visitors a great excuse to come and explore them and to admire the scarecrows in their pretty surroundings. A map of the entries will be available from Rosy Lee’s Tea Room, Bridge Street, Loddon Nearly New, Bridge Street, Loddon & Church Plain Stores, Church Plain and Wards Community Store, Chedgrave. Price £1.

Scarecrows can be arranged as individuals or groups, but the £2 entrance fee is applicable to each individual entrant so ambitious Scarecrow designers could create an entire Royal Family for an outlay of only £2! If you want the Committee to find a spot for your Scarecrow please provide a stake or pole to support your Scarecrow.

To enable judges to identify their favourite Royal Scarecrows each Scarecrow display will be issued with an individual number.

Scarecrows should be displayed from 9.30 am – 5.30 pm on Saturday 2 June to Tuesday 5 June.

Prizes will be awarded for the best Scarecrows, and these will be judged by visitors to the Festival.

Individual entrants will be responsible for maintaining their scarecrows and for arranging for their removal at the end of the festival.

Scarecrows will be displayed at their owner’s risk and the Loddon & District Business Association cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to any valuables used to decorate the Scarecrows.

Members of the LDBA are also running an alternative treasure hunt competition from 2 – 5 June.  Participating shops will display objects from another business in their windows.  The challenge will be for competitors to spot the Odd One Out in each window and in the event of a tie break they will be required to complete a caption competition.  The winning entry will be awarded with a prize.
